“A U.S. privacy group doesn’t have the legal right to seek a court order to block President Donald Trump’s election-integrity commission from collecting voter data because it doesn’t meet the necessary requirements, an appeals court ruled.

The Electronic Privacy Information Center “is not a voter,” the three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington said Tuesday. “As far as the record shows, it has no traditional membership, let alone members who are voters. Unsurprisingly, then, it does not claim standing on behalf of any voter whose data is likely to be collected.”

The group also failed to show it suffered any injury as a result of the voter-data collection effort, the panel said.

The nonprofit group, whose stated mission is “to focus public attention on emerging privacy and civil liberties issues,” sued the panel in July to halt its attempt to gather publicly available voter data from states, including names, addresses, birth dates and the final four digits of social security numbers. Trump created the panel in May after claiming he lost the popular vote to Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton because of fraud.

EPIC argued that the panel acted unlawfully by not first “creating, reviewing, and publishing a privacy impact assessment.” The appeals court found that the group is unable to assert those claims.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly in July rejected the privacy group’s challenge to the collection effort and its demand that the commission reveal how the data will be safeguarded, marking a rare win for an administration that’s been ensnared in litigation over the president’s immigration, environmental and regulatory agendas.”

Andrew Shepherd · December 29, 2017 at 10:29 pm

Oh and the young Turks is something out of nazi Germany.

Andrew Shepherd · December 29, 2017 at 10:29 pm

The only voter fraud was what the DNC did to Bernie. The Robert mouller investigation turns out to be corrupted by the DNC. Turns out the FBI was being biased torwards Hilary and doing all they could to get Trump into any type of trouble and this is what the young turds report about. Hell they were saying a boy killed his ex girlfriend parents cause he was a neo nazi. Freedom of speech is hate speech to you cause it fit your all’s agenda. Which neo nazis kill for racism and religions. He was just a sick kid with mental issues.

Pat Robertson said that if too many democrats vote it will cause a "lesbian tornado"…… Vote blue and get that lesbian tornado rolling in his direction!

Use computerized, networked, touch-screen electronic voting, but after each person finishes voting, a unique, randomly generated “reference number” appears on the screen. There would be no way to link a particular reference number to a particular voter, so everyone’s vote would still be confidential.

The voter could simply ignore the number, he could memorize it, he could write it down, or, if he wants hard copy, he could photograph the screen. The number would stay on the screen until the voter touches “Done” or opens the curtain to leave the voting booth.

Then, at his leisure, he could go on the Internet, look up the reference number, and verify that his votes were recorded correctly. A complete list of all of the votes would be made available for viewing/downloading.

Election investigators and the media could then interview people who had verified their vote in this way to make sure that there were no discrepancies!

Of course the totalitarian Republican goons want to focus on minuscule instances of voter fraud (two of which occurred within The Donald's own family) instead of voter suppression.

arizonatsunami · December 29, 2017 at 10:29 pm

How has it backfired? It's being allowed to continue unabated.

America needs a third party, a centrist party.

Republicans can't win on the strength of their ideas, they have to cheat, or they would never win. "Our leverage on the elections goes down, as the voting population goes up" Paul Wyrick Republican strategist

prophetchannel · December 29, 2017 at 10:29 pm

What exactly is voter fraud? From the way they talk about it it seems like that they think minorities aren't allowed to legally vote and have to be persecuted if they attempt to do so.

Tim Cirulis · December 29, 2017 at 10:29 pm

The far right and the far left both suck. Wake up this is just what Russia and China want hate hate hate hate hate and absolutely no teamwork.

agnar150 · December 29, 2017 at 10:29 pm

Donald Trump knows that he didn't win the American people. That is why he is angry. The USA is a dictatorship and not a democracy and we need to be treated as such by the world.

Jo Pao · December 29, 2017 at 10:29 pm

Once back in power, dems need to:
a) annihilate the electoral college. 1 voter, one vote… paying people to rig the system is insane
b) only allow one senator for North and South Dakota and give those two seats to California
c) make gerrymandering a crime
d) throw Gorsuch out of the SC and appoint whoever they want
e) make voter suppression a crime
f) make high amount donations to politicians, super pacs etc illegal

And then go over all trumpi financial transactions, and put him behind bars.

Then, they need to go single-payer (allowing private insurances for additional stuff) and cheap tuition, slash the "defense" budget, destroy the pass-through and carried-interest loopholes, raise taxes on corporations and rich people at the same level as their competitors.

That will actually make America great (no, not "again", because no, America wasn't great when there was slavery).

US republicans have been cheating at elections for decades to support corruption of politicians so they in turn play lapdogs to the polluters and warmongers and force competition on taxes and workers salaries and conditions inside the country and all over the planet to the sole benefit of the born-rich. The whole planet suffers from their maleficence. They are the force behind wars and the terrorists those create. This has to stop.

amy roberts · December 29, 2017 at 10:29 pm

Redline Maness · December 29, 2017 at 10:29 pm

Donald Trump is destroying your white babies too! Yes, and you will know it soon! Very stupid insane "people."

Redline Maness · December 29, 2017 at 10:29 pm

White America siding with this president shows that they are no different than their slave making daddies and mothers, and they too held a Bible while they killed 100's of millions of humans. Yes, and that number is very low for what they have really killed on this earth. Roll call and events will prove me right!

World's Netizen · December 29, 2017 at 10:29 pm

Be aware, Trumpism is very similar to what I experienced china characterize(Fascism/DengXiaoPingism/ShangYangism) in the latest 30-40 years. If you are one of their special person or opposite 'political power' they think, they will deceive, divide/alienate your family by all means both in the political field and economic field to destroy your family. Numerous families are the basic components of a health and vigorous country. If they successfully destroyed your family and alienated every single family member then they controlled the whole country's politics and economics. This is the bottom and real color of the ShangYangism/Fascism. You might think I'm exaggerating, but this is what I experienced and the Americans are going through. it's not too hard for one to find out by 'rewinding' what one experienced.

Andrew Brown · December 29, 2017 at 10:29 pm

We need to admit that the republican party is a cult now an not a political party.

unCensored · December 29, 2017 at 10:29 pm

Face it Trump, we didn't want you

Here in Australia it is only a federal government department that holds electoral roll info. They have to look after the information according to federal privacy laws (no private enterprise involved). We have to vote. On election days for federal/state/local that same department's employees check your name/address off the roll and we use anonymous paper ballots. Votes are counted in front of other employees (witnesses). Yeah I could go to 2 places to vote, but they would know after the election. Candidates can ask said department to investigate any possible fraud at any time. We haven't had any yet (certainly not systematic) and I can't remember there ever having been a complaint of fraud in the 30 years I've been voting. Now to get on the roll, you REALLY need to prove who you are and satisfy said department, there's many ways for them to double check. You also have to reregister if you change address to prove identity using the original standards of proof. If you don't, you stay off the roll then get fined for not being on it. Seems to work.
